Welcome was a bit overwhelming, but overall a very positive experience for me. One of the first events I attended was the Freshers’ Fair where the atmosphere was extremely bubbly and exciting. Since my course was small in numbers, I had a chance to meet and interact with my course-mates during the induction days.

We also had a couple of good sessions with the course and library staff who explained how and where to access academic support during the year. It was comforting to know that different kinds of support were available at NTU during an intense one year Masters course.

• Although it might feel nerve-wracking at times, try and meet as many new students as possible. The best way to do so is by joining one or more of the many Societies and attending local events.
• In terms of opportunities, NTU has something for everyone so having a chat with a member of staff can sometimes help new students figure out what sector they are inclined to work in, or where they might like to volunteer etc. It’s never too early to network!
• Try and make time for some of the taster sessions offered, even if it’s outside your comfort zone. It’s a great way to meet other students too and possibly develop a new hobby.

• Being a postgraduate international student, I attended the Postgraduate BBQ and met some really wonderful people who I spent a lot of time with during the year.

• Before the start of the term, the International Development Office organised an evening of drinks and dancing at a local bar for new Indian students which I would definitely recommend attending. It felt like having a bit of home in a new place!
