Fancy a friendly meet-up with other mature students? You’re warmly invited to a relaxed and friendly gathering where good company comes first – and alcohol isn’t on the menu.

NTU is home to a vibrant community of mature students, and we’d love for you to be part of it. This meet-up at Café Sobar, an alcohol-free venue in Nottingham city centre, is the perfect opportunity to chat, share experiences, and build new friendships. Whether you’re fresh to campus or have been around a while, there’s a seat at the table for you.

We’ll head there together from campus, meeting first at a designated spot before walking over as a group. Prefer to join us later? No problem – you’ll find us at Café Sobar, Friar Lane.

Feel free to stay for as long – or as little – as you like. No pressure, just good conversation and a welcoming atmosphere.

Feeling peckish? Treat yourself to something tasty from Café Sobar’s reasonably priced menu, featuring homemade food options that hit the spot. Or just kick back with one of their many soft or hot drinks.

Please make sure you book in advance so that we can manage the group size and give you the best experience.

Any questions? Feel free to get in touch.

Student tips

Thoughts and advice from current students on your first few days with us.

I threw myself into everything during Welcome. I went to a BBQ for non-traditional students (international, local, mature, etc) and met some interesting people. If you're living in or out of halls, go to the nights out (even if you're not a drinker) just to be a part of what is going on and to be a part of the usually hilarious stories these nights produce.

My most important message is never feel alone! The University and Students’ Union have amazing help and support teams. We have students that run events, meetings and socials for mature students and students with caring responsibilities. A worry shared is a worry solved, and talking to other mature students and student parents during Welcome Week really made a big difference for me.
