Starting university is better together – and this event is all about helping you feel at home.
Whether you’re a mature student, commuting in, or not living in halls, you’ll find a relaxed and welcoming space to connect with others in a similar boat. It’s also a fantastic opportunity to meet students who may be on your course or in your academic school, so you can start building those peer networks before teaching even begins.
We’ll provide a tailored introduction to the services, support, and opportunities most relevant to you as a mature, commuter or not-in-halls student. You’ll also have the chance to chat with our Mature Student Ambassadors – ask questions, hear what they wish they’d known, and pick up practical tips for balancing life and study.
Knowing you may be juggling other responsibilities, we’re including a short, practical workshop on managing your time and commitments both in and beyond university life.
Designed by students, for students, the session includes plenty of time for informal chats. You’ll meet friendly current students and fellow newcomers in a supportive setting with opportunities to find common ground – academic or otherwise.
The session includes a complimentary lunch (as well as hot drinks and snacks throughout) – another great opportunity to sit down and connect with others in your student community.
After the main session (11am–3pm), you can join our optional campus tour led by Mature Student Ambassadors. They’ll show you the really useful stuff: best parking spots, ideal places to study, great coffee stops, and quiet corners perfect for a breather between lectures. They’ll do their best to answer whatever questions you have, to help get you off to the best possible start!
If you can’t make this event but have some questions you need answering before term starts, you can post them on our Mature Student Community Microsoft Teams page. Please feel free to request access to it if you haven’t got it already.
